We hope that your first week back to school has gone well. This is to inform you that we will be having our first general meeting for the new year this wednesday.

We will be talking about the upcoming events and NSBE programs that we will be having this semester. This is a great opportunity for our members to give us inputs/suggestions of events that we could have to make NSBE more worthwhile and interesting for you guys!
First Year Students should definitely attend this event because we can help you guys with your courses and program selection for next year !
I know choosing which program you should go into can be very stressful and difficult. We can help you!!

DCA Tutoring

Make your Saturday worth while for some lucky High School student, you can sign up to volunteer with DCA tutoring (In conjunction with ACA ) - If this is something you would like to do, please send us a reply letting us know of your interest !
DCA tutoring
The program will be at Sir John A. MacDonald Secondary School (130 York Boulevard) and run from 9am until 12pm. Starting on October 20, 2012 you will met up in the Student Centre and go together.
To get there you can take the HSR (1A, 51, 10, 52, 5A,B,C,D) to Main St. E and Bay and just take a short walk down to York Boulevard, school will be on you're left right at the intersection.

There's going to be a general meeting discussing the full details and telling you more about NSBE. The NSBE general meeting will take place on Wednesday October 3rd, 2012 from 6pm - 7pm
Location: Clubspace, second floor of student centre.

Several students attended the Annual NSBE Convention in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Annual Convention annually recognizes excellence among technical professionals, corporate, government, and academic leaders, as well as university and pre-college students.

Effective ways to Spend your Summer/Finding a Job
We have a panel titled "Effective ways to Spend your Summer/Finding a Job" if you have not found one yet. The workshop is going to focus more on how to get a job and overcome obstacles in the job hunt process and also answer the following questions:
- Importance of extra curricular activities and which ones are more beneficial to your resume
- The importance are grades?
- Reasons why people don't get hired
- How referrals work?

Remember that this is your chance to network with and allow them to introduce you to their contacts. They are both dedicated to youth development and are here to help you. Also remember to spread the word.

Fall Regional Conferences (FRC) attract between 800 and 1,000 pre-college, collegiate and technical professional members within each of the six (6) regions. Conferences include a career fair (average of 30 companies); General Conference with workshops; general sessions and entertainment; a Pre-College Initiative Conference, (for high school and middle school students), featuring a science fair, competitions, group projects, and workshops; and a Professional Development Conference, (for technical professionals), featuring networking sessions, career fair, professional development workshops, and entertainment. African Caribbean Association October 2nd 2011
Location: Biology Lounge, LSB 213
This Wednesday October 5th, the African-Carribean professors of McMaster will be having a meet and greet from 530pm-7pm, in the Biology Lounge, LSB 213 (the same place their general meeting took place). There will be pizza and drinks, and this will be a very excellent opportunity to not only meet the successful African-Carribean profs at Mac, but also to expand your network and eat free food :).

Toye Ojo competed in the Technical Research Exhibition
Toye Ojo was awarded the Kolwale Glover Scholarship for exemplifies dedication to the service of our membership while preserving academic success and a sense
of cultural responsibility. This scholarship was created in memoriam of the late Region 1 Regional Executive Board member, Kolawale Glover.

Thank you to everyone that attended and showed support for the chapter. NSBE McMaster is now and official MES Club and will be receiving up to $550 in funding next year.
NSBE ConventionMarch 9th 2011
Five members of the chapter will be attending the convention representing McMaster University. Toye Ojo will be presenting a research study aimed at developping engineering solutions to dialysis treatment which was conducted with the Chemical Engineering Department at McMaster and Scarborough General Hospital's Nephrology and Dialysis Center.
The Annual Convention is the premiere event for the organization which encompasses members from around the world. During the convention there will be various programs and workshops that will be in place to benefit grade school, collegiate, graduate, technical professional, and international entities of the Society. The convention will showcase the NSBE culture, achievements of the membership, local and nationwide talent, and black-owned businesses in the Pittsburgh area. The goal of this convention is to provide members with the pipeline to continue to strive for success in one�s academics, profession, and community. More information to come!
